PREFACE

The Problems Manual has been developed to assist students and instructors who use Heat Transfer^2e and Heat TransferProfessional Version^2e textbook and software. This printing of the manual includes over 575 basic problems that cover all aspects of the material presented in the textbook. In addition, the manual includes a selection of review questions for each chapter, which should be useful to students as they prepare for exams.

A Word to Students

To help establish confidence in your problem solving ability, solutions to representative problems are listed in a section at the end of the Problems Manual. To further reinforce the learning process, you are encouraged to use the heat transfer software to check your answers and to deal with tedious computational aspects of some of the problems. Because of the ease-of-use and comprehensive nature of the heat transfer software, you are also encouraged to use this problem solving tool in answering "what-if questions" and in dealing with open-ended design problems.

PREFACE

The Solutions Manual provides comprehensive solutions to problems posed in the Problems Manual. The format used in the solution of all problems (Objective, Schematic, Assumptions/Conditions, Properties, and Analysis) is patterned after the examples in the textbook. This systematic approach has been found to aid students in recognizing and understanding specific concepts involved in each problem. Although the Solutions Manual is only available to instructors and is not to be distributed to students, the manual is designed such that the solution to individual problems can be conveniently posted under glass.
